Why is she such an intolerable character who happens to be such an important main character? So much potential yet it is all wasted. When it comes to post-apocalyptic action shows on Netflix, there is no denying that Van Helsing is one of the top tier choices on the streamer, and it is absolutely no surprise as soon as the fifth season ended, the need for knowledge regarding Van Helsing season 6 would increase substantially between both fans and subscribers. Now that she sees visions of the red door, she just wants to see it with no care about what could be behind. Her bitchiness for the entire season 1 just didn't add up man. She barely showed any emotion when she saw her daughter Dylan. I agree with what someone else said here. And yes, she is really arrogant and annoying when she chooses not to help people selfishly. Vanessa just doesn't make me feel any of that. I can feel the genuine concern he has for the people he is responsible for and the struggle he faces. There's so many things that could've contributed to an overall better story but it just misses the mark. Also, I agree about how there is no development in her character from waking up and knowing how she might be the cure to everything. How did you word this so succinctly and straight to the point? I'm impressed. In trying to craft this facade of a strong and independent woman, they've created the epitome of an asshole. Just my thoughts so far, not the worst show, but not fond of this character. Axel is a little bit of an ass but a quite likeable person under that. Sometimes I want to pretend it's her lack of trust, but arrogant, bitchy and unbearable aren't substitute's for a character that's distrustful. There isn't even really a progression from a normal human thrown into an apocalypse to un-phased vampire killer. From what I gather, others feel the same about her. She doesn't seem to have much of a personality beyond that and it's quite grating. She never takes the blame for anything, other characters are always the cause. Every other moment on screen of every episode, she's that other awful character. The only three times in the whole show so far she ever strays from these is with what happens to Axel, her daughter and being captured at the citadel. Then there's Vanessa's attitude, which is very bitchy, arrogant and never compromised or worried, this seems unrealistic. So Vanessa's just strong and fearless because it's what the writers envision and want in the female lead no explanation. Is it because she's a van helsing? No, Scarlett's been trained all her life to be how she is. This lead me to ask where did she learn this, military background? Trained by someone? Karate classes? No, no explanation. Firstly there's many questions raised about her background, she was jobless and giving blood at the beginning for money, then was randomly a strong person that could beat up men. It seems like in the writers bid to make a strong 'don't need no man' series and lead character, they've instead created the epitome of the word asshole. I haven't seen the actresses other work so won't condemn the actress, but what an awful character. The writing in some places is quite odd with plot inconsistencies, particularly with Vanessa. The show isn't the worst, I like most the characters (even Sam, trying to figure them out and their madness). Note, if you've not seen season 1 & 2, some spoilers ahead.
